LabelAirprint

Prototype

Print shipping labels from your phone to a 4×6 label printer.

A virtual AirPrint printer for the Mac. Print a page from an iPhone, iPad or Mac and it finds the USPS, UPS or FedEx label, crops it, turns it upright and prints just the label.

From the lab — an internal tool, not currently released. It may be open-sourced later.

Return labels almost always arrive as a full letter-size page with the label buried in it. LabelAirprint sits on your Mac as a printer called “Shipping Labels.” Print to it from any device and it finds the label, crops it, turns it upright and sends just that to a thermal label printer.

Working end to end today on a Brother QL-1110NWB, with detection accuracy improving as the label corpus grows.

What it does

  • Shows up as a normal AirPrint printer on iPhone, iPad and Mac
  • Detects USPS, UPS and FedEx labels on a full page
  • Crops, rotates and scales to a clean 4×6 label
  • Leaves the instructions, receipt and the rest of the page out
  • Runs as a background service with a menu bar app
