Hello, world: what TappsAI is and why it exists

TappsAI is a small, AI-first software studio. Here's what we build, how we build it, and what this blog will cover.

TappsAI is an independent software studio. It’s where the apps I build live: desktop utilities, automations, dashboards and the occasional experiment that turns into something people use every day.

I’ve been a professional developer and software architect for about seventeen years, across a lot of industries and a lot of stacks. The thing that changed in the last couple of years isn’t what good software is — it’s how fast a small team can get there.

AI-first, not AI-only

“AI-first” here means AI is in the loop from the first commit: planning, prototyping, writing tests, reviewing diffs, auditing for security, drafting docs. It doesn’t mean shipping whatever a model produces. Every app still gets the things that have always separated software that lasts from software that doesn’t:

  • A clear problem. Each app does one job well.
  • Architecture you can explain. If I can’t draw it, I don’t ship it.
  • Tests and audits. AI makes it cheap to write them, so there’s no excuse to skip them.
  • Respect for the machine it runs on. Fast startup, small footprint, no surprise network calls.

What you’ll find here

The apps page lists what’s shipping and what’s in the lab. First up is TesseraSnap, a window manager for Windows 11 that’s headed to the Microsoft Store.

This blog is where I’ll share what I’m learning about building software with AI — what works, what doesn’t, and the patterns that hold up once something has to run unattended at 3 a.m.
